Lot Essay

The first painting titled 'Gyal' depicts a dark brown water buffalo tethered to a stump. The word “Gyal” may be a local name for this type of buffalo. The second painting titled 'Bengal Bullock' illustrates a light grey zebu, a species of cattle that is native to the jungles of South Asia. The zebu is also known as the humped cattle since it has a very distinctive hump on its upper back.
