The composition of the present painting has been attributed to the artist Nainsukh (active ca. 1710-1778). A strikingly similar painting in the collection of the National Museum of Asian Art (acc. no. S2018.1.61) has been signed by Majnu, presumably Nainsukh’s grandson. It is possible the present painting is also a copy by Majnu, or perhaps another artist from the second generation after Nainsukh.
