The present pichvai is for use on Sharad Purnima, the autumn moon festival. Gopis gather around Shrinathji in dance under the star and moonlit night. The border of the pichvai comprises 25 miniature paintings, mostly depicting darshan, or viewings, of Shrinathji as they change throughout the seasons of the year. The lower register depicts the feast of the Annakut Festival and the Dana Lila. Compare the present lot to another Sharat Purnima pichvai sold at Christie’s New York, 20 March 2019, lot 727 for $17,500.
