Lot Essay
On first meeting Audrey at a London party, following the release of Roman Holiday, photographer and costume designer Cecil Beaton wrote in his diary: Audrey’s enormous potential cinema success, with attendant salary, seems to have made little impression on this delightful human being [...] In a flash I discovered Audrey Hepburn is chock-a-block with sprite like charm [...] we liked one another. Beaton would go on to shoot Audrey in a series of portraits for British Vogue in 1954. Neutral tone gelatin silver print on semi-gloss paper trimmed to edge, mounted on board. Extremely faint silver upper horizontal edge, consistent with age an visible on raking light only. Surface dirt mount, not affecting the image. There are no other apparent condition issues. Please note this work is sold unframed.
