Lot Essay

The engraving V.R. suggests the locket may have belonged to Audrey’s paternal grandmother Anna Ruston to carry a photograph of her husband, Audrey’s paternal grandfather Victor Ruston. Their son, Audrey’s father, was born Joseph Ruston in 1889 in Bohemia (Czech Republic). Later, Joseph found documents about his ancestors, some of which bore the name Hepburn, and added the hyphenated Hepburn-Ruston to the family name.
