Lot Essay
Girl with Balloon first appeared as a series of stencil murals sprayed in various locations across London in 2002, and the subsequent screenprint of this iconic artwork is perhaps the most desirable Banksy edition.
The image of the girl with the red balloon is synonymous with Banksy, but there were a limited number of signed artist's proofs made in other colour variations of purple, blue, pink and gold, although these are extremely rare. There were a total of 88 artist's proofs in the various colourways, but it is not known how many were released, and this is the first time that a colour variant has appeared at auction.
The standard edition with the red balloon was produced in an edition of 150 signed, and 600 unsigned impressions. Post Lot Text This lot is offered with the Certificate of Authenticity from Pest Control.
Artist's Resale Right Regulations 2006 apply to this lot. You must pay us an extra amount equal to the resale royalty and we will pay the royalty to the appropriate authority. Please see the Conditions of Sale for further information.
