FURTHER DETAILS
In Parts of Her, Ayla El-Moussa explores the complexity of perception and objectification. Presenting abstracted, fragmented images that ask us to observe our routine cognitive processes. This series captures isolated parts of the female form, prompting viewers to consider cultural and psychological implications of seeing women as collections of body parts. El-Moussa's work contrasts intimacy with abstraction and in Parts of Her the underlying theme explores objectification in everyday perception. By deconstructing her own body into detailed fragments, El-Moussa reclaims the narrative, exposing parts subjected to societal scrutiny. The zoomed-in perspectives reveal textures and nuances, dissolving form into abstraction and prompting discussions on identity, voyeurism, and self-dissolution. “The Closer you look, the less you see.”
