FURTHER DETAILS
Dating back to approximately 1975, the plotter drawing Geese presents a dynamic arrangement of a hand-digitized goose figure. This figure belongs to a set of early representational images, also including Frog, Fat Cat, and Elephant, that served as interchangeable elements in the artist's nascent works. Here, the computer orchestrates a flock of geese across the drawing surface by generating an array of translation coordinates for each instance. Their orientation is controlled by a mathematical function, devised by Christopher Scussel, which assigns a unique rotation angle to each goose, profoundly influencing the image's overall rhythm and pattern. This particular iteration emerged from a series of generative experiments, ultimately selected by the artist, demonstrating an early interplay between computational randomness and artistic intention.
