FURTHER DETAILS
Beginning in 2017, Obvious was started as an ambitious project among friends specializing in A.I. training through Generative Adversarial Networks to produce images. The collection grabbed mainstream attention the subsequent year when they amalgamated 15,000 portraits spanning from the 14th to the 20th century to create a new artwork, titled Edmond de Belamy, from La Famille de Belamy. This artwork fetched $432,500 at Christie’s October 2018 Prints & Multiples live sale, far surpassing the initial presale estimate of $10,000. Notably, this marked the first of an A.I.-generated artwork being sold at auction.
