A DEHUA SCHOLAR ON ROCKS
18TH CENTURY
The figure is well-modelled as Wen Chang, the Daoist God of Literature, seated on a pierced rocky ledge. He is wearing a long, belted robe and an official's hat, holding a ruyi scepter in his left hand, the other concealed under the garment sleeve. The glaze is a cool, white tone pooling in the recessed areas.
