Lot Essay

'Earthrise' - when the cresent earth emerges from the lunar horizon against the void of space - was a highly anticipated occasion for any Apollo mission able to witness it. Iconic photograph series of the moment have been captured by Apollo 8, Apollo 11, Apollo 12 before the present photograph. As the landing sities for the Apollo 12 and 14 missions were on a similar orbital, the views of earthrise over the lunar crater 'Meitner' are notably alike (see Christie's, London, November 6-20, 2020, Lot 405).
