Lot Essay

As pilot of the spacecraft Aurora 7, astronaut Scott Carpenter (see photo ix.) was the sixth human ever to fly in space. The flight performed 3 orbits of the earth, launching at 7:45:16 EST (see photo i.) with over 4.5 hours of weightlessness. The mission objective - to corroborate man in orbit - was considered a resounding success, with NASA delcaring the performance of the spacecraft and launch vehicle to be 'excellent in nearly every respect'.
