Lot Essay

Located on the far side of the Moon, lunar crater 'Mendeleev' measures approximately 195 miles in diameter, and is named after the revered Russian chemist Dmitri Medeleev. At the time of the Apollo 11 mission however, it was referred to simply as 'Basin 9'.
