The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas.
The canvas has been lined with a wax lining.
The paint layer appears to be secure and stable. The painted surface has some minor surface dirt and varnish discolouration.
There is a slight buckling to the canvas in the upper right quadrant. There are some faint patterns of craquelure visible upon close inspection.
There are two faint vertical lines relating to the central stretcher bar visible in raking light.
Examination under UV light shows only very few minor scattered spots of sensitively handled cosmetic retouching, including to an old repair, visible in the seat.
Overall the picture presents very well in a gilt period style frame.
