The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
oil on canvas. The canvas has been lined. The paint layer appears to be secure and stable.The painted surface cleaned in the past, minor surface dirt and varnish discoloration. Upon close inspection, there are some patterns of cracquelure visible (not distracting).
Examination under UV light shows an uneven varnish layer, which florusese green and may make further reading difficult. There is a vertical line of retouching visible to the right hand edge. There are some spots of retouching visible to the lower edge and the face of the sitter. There are other spots of retouching visible predominantly to the background.
It is recorded that there is retouching above the sitter's lap, where the cat sat.
Overall the painting presents very well in a gilt composite period style frame.
