This painting was part of the John Tillotson collection. John Tilloston was a trustee at the Lady Lever Art Galley, Port Sunlight and the Wallace Collection, London and a Syndic of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge to which he bequeathed his collection of Barbizon School paintings.

oil canvas. The canvas has been relined. The paint layer appears to be secure and stable. The painted surface has some minor varnish discolouration and some localised areas of craquelure. Examination under UV light shows very minor spots of cosmetic retouching. Overall, the painting presents well in a gilt composite period style frame with a canvas innersection.
