Lot Essay

This interesting example of Japonisme, a genre which rarely features in Hubert-Denis Etcheverry’s œuvre, shows the popularity and influence of Japanese art and design in Paris in the 19th Century. Taking inspiration from the Dutch Golden Age fascination with still life painting, this work shows acute attention to interesting details and a finesse to composition.
