The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Structural condition
The artist's board is structurally sound and secure with an even profile. The overall structural
condition appears to be very good.
Paint surface
The paint surface has a rather discoloured and uneven varnish layer and would benefit from
cleaning and revarnishing, although it should be stressed that no work is required, for reasons
of conservation.
Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms how discoloured the varnish layers have become
and how well the painting should respond to cleaning and also shows a number of retouchings
on the right of the composition. These retouchings are clearly considerably larger than is really
necessary and could be significantly reduced should they be removed during the cleaning
process and replaced with more minimal inpainting.
Summary
The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition and could be
considerably improved by cleaning and revarnishing.
