Structural condition
The canvas has been lined and there are traces of paper on the reverse of the lining canvas.
The overall structural condition is secure.
Paint surface
The paint surface has a reasonably even varnish layer.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows a number of scattered retouchings including numerous
retouchings in the sky, throughout the landscape and along the lower horizontal framing edge.
I suspect that many of these retouchings have been applied to cover areas where the artist has
allowed the underlying ground layers to remain visible.
Summary
The painting is therefore in stable condition and the extent of retouchings applied in the past
should certainly be noted.
