oil on panel.
The panel is slightly undulating, consistent with its age.
There is a hairline fracture approx. 3cm from the top edge running around 10cm in from both left and right edges. This is quite possibly the reason for the cradling attached to the reverse.
The painted surface appears to have been cleaned in the past and the glazes have been well preserved.
The paint layer appears to be in secure and stable condition.
Examination under UV light shows retouches to the aforementioned hairline cracks and retouches and a wash along the top edge. There are some other scattered spots of inpaint in the sky and along the outer edges. The bottom half of the composition as well as the tower remain untouched.
Overall the painting presents well in a period style frame.
