A wreck off Tantallon Castle

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting is lined and the stretcher is providing good support. The painted surface has a few minor flecks of dirt. There is a pattern of surface cracking in the centre of the canvas. In the centre of the canvas, there are also some scratches to the painted surface. Above this, there is a slightly raised circular indentation, with a diameter of 4cms.

Under UV examination, there are areas of inpainting to the aforementioned scratches in the paint surface and an area of retouching to the stern of the ship. The is also an area of retouching in the upper left corner, in the sky.
