Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been lined and is on what is most probably the original stretcher which is providing good support. There is some fine craquelure and some areas of surface dirt. The varnish in the sea appears a little cloudy. The picture might benefit from a light clean.
Under UV light there is a layer of uneven varinsh to the sea which renders reading the canvas difficult, however there appear to be one or two minor spots of retouching in the sea and sky. The picture appears to have been partially cleaned.
The picture is present in a 20th century swept frame.
