Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the sitter for the present work is George, the artist's daughter, nicknamed Geo. The colourful flowers, which are thought to be camelias, form a striking headdress against the gold coloured background. The painting was previously in the collection of the famous hat manufacturers, Mossant. The present lot is accompanied by a copy of the certificate of authenticity from Béatrice Durand dated 26 December 2019. The present lot will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné produced by Béatrice Durand, currently in preparation.
