The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
oil on canvas. The canvas has not been lined. The paint layer appears to be secure and stable. The painted surface has been cleaned in the past, there is an l shaped surface abrasion (circa 2 x 2 cm) in the supper left quadrant. There are minor frame abrasions visible on the lower extremity. There are minor areas of ageing and craquelure, there is a horizontal line at the top edge and a vertical line at the right edge, visible upon close inspection in the raking light, relating to the stretcher bars.
Examination under UV light shows florescence in the afore mentioned craquelures and to two vertical lines, relating to the vertical stretcher in the centre, and to the afore mentioned L shape d abrasion in the upper left quadrant.
Overall the painting presents very well in a period gilt composite gilt frame.
