The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas is unlined and is slightly loose on what is probably its original stretcher. Some fine surface cracking is visible, mostly to the sitter's shoulder, neck, cheek and forehead, some of this appears to be lifting slightly. There are several surface scratches along the left and right-hand edge and one to the centre of the bottom edge. It would benefit from a light clean. Overall, the colours are fresh and strong.

Under UV, there appear to be no significant signs of damage or restoration.
