Lot Essay
This drawing appears to be a study for Cressida, painted for William Luson Thomas's 'Graphic Gallery of Shakespeare's Heroines' in 1887. The picture was exhibited in 1888 and was engraved as a plate for The Graphic on 18 March 1893 (see British Museum, 2007,7017.4). We are grateful to Donato Esposito for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
