Lot Essay

Maude Moore married the artist Harry Sutton Palmer and was the mother of Camille Sutton Palmer. Palmer exhibited at the Royal Academy from the age of 16, initially showing still-lives, but later he turning to landscape painting in watercolour, inspired particularly by David Cox, William Müller and Peter de Wint. From 1904 he worked as regular illustrator of the A & C Black Colour Plate Books, starting with A.R.H. Moncrieff's Bonnie Scotland.
