Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is unlined and is on its original stretcher which is providing good support. There is some fine surface cracking but the paint layer appears to be stable. UV light reveals broad areas of cosmetic retouching throughout the blue pigments of the sky, and to the areas of the water and to the buildings on the left hand side of the canvas. The 20th century swept frame has lost part of the right hand corner, and there are a few other chips and losses.
