Lot Essay

Although previously identified as the artist's wife, Agnes McSymon Rogerson, this portrait painted circa 1919 clearly depicts a younger woman than Agnes whom he had married in 1885. The couple had four sons, two of whom Ian and David, were also printmakers. A third Peter played rugby for England. They also had a daughter.
