Lot Essay

This work, conceived by light artist Chris Levine, portrays the Queen in a serene moment of rest. Levine's aim was to create a sense of stillness though the portrait. The scale of this work marks a departure from other representations, but not as much so as the process by which it is made. The work was created by taking 300 video images and was produced using a holographic stereogram system, resulting in a three-dimensional depiction which is remarkably lifelike.
