BROWN, Clifford (1930-1956).

Album page signed and inscribed by Clifford Brown: ‘“Bruz Pate”, “Be Cool My Man”, Musically Yours, Clifford Brown’.

As Clifford Brown died tragically young in a car accident at just 25 years old, his signature is notably scarce. ‘Relative to the length of his career [Brown] had a greater impact on the music than any comparable instrumentalist. A whole generation was affected by his combination of fast attack and broad, lyrical tone, which sounded like a hybrid between Fats Navarro and Miles Davis. Brownie’s early death was a genuine tragedy for the music.’ Cook and Morton, The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings.

One leaf, 140 x 115 mm, dry mounted, in common mount with an original photograph of Brown by renowned jazz photographer Francis Wolff, taken for the 1954 Blue Note recordings A Night at Birdland, when Brown was starring with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, framed (452 x 335 mm).
