DAVIS, Miles (1926-1991) et al.

A collection of black and white photographs from the archives of Columbia Records, New York, 1950-1980, including 16 of Miles Davis: two seated next to Billie Holiday at the Plaza Hotel, two with Gil Evans, one with bandaged head and bloodied shirt in a squad car following his notorious arrest in New York, and others with the first and second quintets. Other subjects include Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, John Lee Hooker, Tony Williams, Charlie Parker, Max Roach and Sidney Bechet.

24 various prints, the majority later inkjet prints, with some vintage gelatin silver, the majority with handwritten annotations verso, each approx. 203 x 254 mm. Provenance: Jerry Fishel (Columbia Records executive, former executive director of the RIAA).
