Twice signed in blue ballpoint pen on the half-title by Ellington, additionally signed and often inscribed by the entire Ellington orchestra at the prelims, including Duke’s great collaborator and arranger, pianist Billy Strayhorn. The recipient, Jeff Atterton, wrote for Melody Maker and associated with many of the greats from the Big Band era and earlier.
