A collection of ten vintage saxophone reeds, 1940s, signed by various jazz saxophonists, comprising: Lester Young – Vandoren reed signed and inscribed in black ink ‘Lester Young, 1st Tenor’, c. 1940; Coleman Hawkins – Roy Maier reed signed in black ballpoint pen and mounted with a vintage gelatin silver print of Hawkins by British jazz writer and photographer Valerie Wilmer, who reportedly obtained the autographed reed from Hawkins in person; Leon “Chu” Berry – C.G. Conn Ltd. Special reed signed and inscribed in black ink ‘Best wishes, Chu Berry, Cab Calloway Band’, c.1940; Don Byas – ‘Artist Cut’ reed signed in black ink; Gerry Mulligan - Vandoren reed signed in black ink; Joe Henderson - Rico V-3 reed signed in black felt tip; Illinois Jacquet – Rico V-3 reed signed in black ink; Sonny Rollins – Rico V-3 reed signed in black ink and additionally annotated with a pair of eighth notes; Buddy Tate – Otto Link reed signed and inscribed in black ink ‘2nd Ten. Sax.’, c.1940s; and Phil Woods – La Voz reed signed in black ink; each reed individually mounted and matted with a photograph of the respective signatory, the mounts approx. 460 x 360 mm; housed in a modern custom cloth solander box; accompanied by documents concerning the provenance.
