The inclusion of the ebonized nude female busts and the distinctly undulating legs suggest Russia as the place of manufacture of this dressing table. Tables dating from the late 1700s and early 1800s with similarly curved legs can be found in the collection of the Pavlovsk Palace Museum, see Antoine Chenevière, Russian Furniture: The Golden Age 1780-1840, London, 1988, p. 135, fig. 124. and p. 171, fig. 171.

In overall sound condition and ready to be placed. Scattered age and construction cracks (not extensive). The back legs later reinforced on reverse. The veneer with some fine cracks, minor patches and infill, the largest on the proper left approximatley 3 in. wide. The top of the superstructure beneath the mirror with some fading, wear, and probably early water damage. The mirror frame with some old minor inactive worm damage to the veneer, now with infill. Locks replaced. The mirror plate replaced. The verre eglomise in the cresting of a later date. The black painted areas refreshed.
