`Medallion' bowls of this type were very popular in the Qianlong, Jiaqing and Daoguang periods, as well as during the Republic Period, when this vessel was created. A Qianlong-marked ruby-ground 'medallion' bowl, although featuring landscape roundels rather than those with precious objects, as on the present bowl, is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Porcelains with Cloisonne Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decoration, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 120, no. 104.
