A SMALL SILVER FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA
18TH-19TH CENTURY
The bodhisattva sits in dhyanasana with his hands held before his chest in anjali mudra. He is clad in billowing robes and wears a foliate crow. The base is sealed and incised with a double-vajra and the lower back is incised with a Qianlong six-character mark.

The Rende Zhai (House of Benevolent Learning) Collection, 1949-1970s, in the United States before 1990.

Lot Essay

Buddhist figures cast in silver are rare, as the metal was relatively scarce in China and largely used for currency. The small size of this figure indicates it was likely for household or personal worship.
