The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.
The figural cover depicting Laozi:
-Overall good condition.
-A few small patches of kiln debris. Two small patches (near the proper right shoulder and near the proper right knee) appear to have been lightly polished.
-A few minor small nicks to the scroll aperture, and a few expected minor small chips to the unglazed inner rim which fits into the back of the buffalo.
The water buffalo:
-Restoration to the proper back right leg below the knee, the proper right horn, an area around the proper left eye, the proper left side of the nose and the top part of the mouth below.
-There is a shallow glaze chip to one side of the nose, a few small minor chips to the edges of the back aperture, and few very small minor nicks to front hooves.
-There is some irregularity to the glaze around the back aperture, particular along the proper right side.
