The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been relined. Surface soiling throughout. Frame abrasion along the extreme edges. There is a network of craquelure throughout. Scattered craquelure fill. There is a long vertical tear long the right edge (approx. 8 in. long) with associated flaking to the later pigments and a smaller 2-inch tear just above the ship's prow. A tear issuing from the lower edge right of center extending vertically and curving into the sale’s backmost sail. A tear beginning in the middleground of water right of center and curving to the right terminating near the backmost mast. Scattered strokes of infill throughout, including to the sails and upper corners. Two small abrasions along the right edge. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
