Lot Essay

There is a small series of flattened lapis lazuli bottles, often with flared necks, which seem to be early products, from the mid-Qing period, and may be Imperial. This is a particularly intriguing example, quite apart from its lovely shape and colour, because of the white and grey markings which allow a number of possible interpretations of the material as subject matter, one of which is dragons amidst clouds.
