AN INSIDE-PAINTED GLASS BOTTLE AND AN INSIDE-PAINTED ROCK CRYSTAL BOTTLE
BOTH SIGNED YE ZHONGSAN, ONE DATED JIA ZI YEAR (1924) AND GENG ZI YEAR (1900)
The first bottle is of elongated, ovoid form on an oval footrim and painted with a continuous scene of Zhong Kui on his donkey at the marriage procession of his sister. She sits in a sedan chair pushed by an attendant, while another holds a large jar from which escape a group of red bats. Carved with mask and ring handles at the shoulders. The bottle is inscribed with a cyclical date corresponding to 1900. The second bottle is of flattened, rounded form and painted on one side with a scene of Xue Yelai, the concubine of the first emperor of the state of Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Pi, and her attendants at leisure pursuits within a garden pavilion. The other side is painted with the story of Huang Ying from the novel Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. The bottle is inscribed with a cyclical date corresponding to the year 1924.
