Born Countess Nadja Ostrovska in Rome, there is not a vast trove of information on her work. However, Nadja Buckley was one of the only American women jewelry designers in a male dominated field who had two retail shops in New York and Dallas in the late 1940’s. She was awarded the prestigious Diamonds, U.S.A. award in 1954 for her creative work and is known for her use of gemstones and diamonds in yellow gold settings. As a boutique jeweler Ms. Buckley was featured prominently in fashion magazine editorials of the mid-20th century as her pieces were retailed by Georg Jensen and Bonwit Teller. The remaining stock of her retail establishment was sold at Parke-Bernet Galleries in 1955 and subsequently she focused on private commissions. It is interesting to note that very few examples of her jewelry have appeared at public auction, most likely due to the fact that many pieces were not signed.
