Lot Essay

One of only four designers to have collaborated with Tiffany and Co., Elsa Peretti revolutionized the design house’s aesthetic with her organic designs and sensual forms. The rebellious daughter of an affluent Roman family, Peretti first came to New York in 1968 and immediately became a force of nature in the fashion, art and design scenes. Her rise to the top was meteoric, working with top designers such as Halston, Oscar de la Renta, and Georgio Sant'Angelo shortly after her arrival in Manhattan. In 1974 she began her collaboration with Tiffany, designing jewelry that became instantly iconic, including the Bone, Bean, Diamonds by the Yard, and of course Heart collections. Her aesthetic focuses on a simplistic excellence in craftsmanship and organic design that is a testament to the natural world.
