Lot Essay

Textile and performance artist, Enam Gbewonyo’s practice investigates identity, womanhood, and humanity while advocating the healing benefits of craft. She works with a variety of materials using processes such as knitting, weaving, printing and embroidery to name a few. By using craft as her portal she pushes us to face the truth of a dark past and the emotions it brings forth. Thus bringing us to a point of spiritual awareness both of self and humanity. The works included in the Christie’s Staff Art Auction are from earlier bodies of work that explore nature as a solution to humanity’s ills.
