Lot Essay

Graeme Duddridge is a multidisciplinary artist with a wide field of interest. Having trained in Fine Art and Art History he has worked variously as a photographer for a wide variety of magazines, advertising and design clients, as an occasional illustrator and in videography.

2019 and 2020 saw him feature on the Sky Arts "Portrait Artist of the Year" television series and he had two works selected for the ING Discerning Eye exhibition in 2020.

Influences for these latest works are drawn from seemingly disparate sources; traditional painting and crafts, pop culture and the decorative arts, cinema, literature, found photography and fashion history. Nowhere is off limits as a source of reference - the curiosity of combining different visual forms and a love of the material craft aspect of making the work is the driving interest here- this work is more led by the spirit of "And, Also, And" than "Either, Or", and in the age of digital, AI and mechanical reproduction rather traditionally handmade and slow to produce.
