Lot Essay

Working across a variety of media including printmaking, painting and photography Graeme's work explores themes of representation, identity, and changing history. Referencing traditions within image making and often using found or staged photography as a leaping-off point these images explore narrative themes that present a mystery or a question. Separated from their original context, with added elements or colour interventions the artist invites the viewer to speculate.

‌As a portrait artist, Graeme has appeared on Sky Portrait Artist of The Year in 2019 and 2020 where he painted Mark Gatiss and John Cooper Clarke respectively and his work was shown at the Compton Verney Gallery in 2022 as part of a retrospective exhibition of the show. His work was also represented in the 2020 ING Discerning Eye.
