Lot Essay
Side 1 "In through the bunnyhole Round the big tree Out through the bunnyhole Off hops she”
“In, over through and out”
Side 2 “Stab the pirate, Strangle the pirate, Pull him through And off the plank!”
“Through, over, under, off” Sew.est is a Scottish textile artist who uses traditionally domesticated mediums to investigate gender norms, intangible cultural heritage and craft theory. Through embroidery, knitting, crochet, quilting and rug tufting, Sew.est pays homage to so-called "feminine" artforms, using slow making to connect with older generations that have verbally passed down rich histories, whilst reviving interest in endangered crafts, and critiquing attributes associated with textiles such as innocence and subservience. A self-taught knitter, Sew.est explores the dissonance of virtual learning, in comparison to more traditional forms of knowledge-sharing within textiles.
