Lot Essay

Simone has been making art since she could hold a pencil and it’s been a constant in her life. When they were younger, she and her younger siblings would hold auctions in the living room for the ‘masterpieces’ that they would make. The works were mainly pencil drawings of animals and mythical characters, and they would be priced anywhere between £1 to £4, with hers as the eldest reaching up to £10 sometimes. Their parents were the bidders and that was how they made their pocket money. So she loves the fact that she is now working at an auction house and selling some of her works, both here and through commissions. Her most prized possessions are her stacks of sketchbooks and Art A-Level books and folders. She’s experimented in many different styles, ideas, mediums and concepts, and she has never developed one common theme. This might be because she likes to respond to current issues, art history and artist styles that she sees around her, something that she can do a lot more of, working at Christies and seeing new art every day.
