Lot Essay
This high quality watch features a gothic monogram with the initials ESD and a presentation engraving on the cuvette “To Superintendent Edward S. Dean From Five Hundred Employees P. B. & P. Mg. Co. March 24, 1914”. As an active Templar in the early 20th century, Mr. Dean was celebrated for bettering working conditions for his employees at the Pierce, Butler & Pierce Manufacturing Company in Syracuse, New York. The company specialized in sanitary products for the bathroom and was founded in 1839, later going out of business during the Great Depression.

The case is in excellent condition with surface wear. The case with 18k marks and interestingly the inside case back with small seven pointed star hand engraving, most likely done to honor his service to the Masonic Knights Templar. This dial of this watch with minor pitting to the enamel and repair to the enamel on 30 minute register. The hands with oxidation. The movement and split second chronograph are in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch but the oil is dry and it will eventually require a cleaning and overhaul. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
