Lot Essay

The present Speedmaster is one of the earliest examples and the first reference to feature the caliber 861, which followed the celebrated caliber 321. The present watch is a rare and desirable “transitional” model featuring characteristics shared by its successors including the applied OMEGA logo on the dial, “Dot Over 90” or “DON” bezel, and a case back featuring the hippocampus and Speedmaster text. It also called a “Pre-Moon” model as it was made prior to the successful Apollo 11 mission. Vintage OMEGA Speedmasters such as the present model continue to gain popularity and remain one of the most iconic chronographs produced.

According to the Archives of OMEGA, the present watch was manufactured on February 25, 1968 and delivered to the United States of America.
